On paper, putting the ball in the back of the net 'should' be the least problem facing the Super Eagles given the decent crop of striking options available.
Ironically, it is slowly becoming a crisis of sorts whenever Victor Osimhen isn't available and/or Ademola Lookman doesn't unleash a trick out of the blue from the wings.
Rewind months back, and for such a long time, I must stress - the problem had always been the inability of the team to 'create chances'. However, in recent games, especially under the new gaffer, Augustine Eguavoen, this protracted deficiency has significantly diminished as we saw chances upon chances created in the last 3-4 games, but unfortunately, the strikers ceased to be scorers.
The 3-0 thumping of Rwanda could be quite deceptive to anyone who missed the game because, in reality, it could have been at least 5 goals if the strikers on the day were more 'clinical'.
Unfortunately, final scores in football have a way of masking realities only to suddenly throw up the actual issues in the most unexpected of ways, if unattended to in the future, especially against more proven teams.
As you read this, I am letting you know there is a camouflaged striking crisis in the team such that if left unresolved, it could be more realistic to expect the US-dollar to fall against the Naira than for Nigeria to qualify for the next World Cup!
